Day 25

Mildred Schreiber

Words from my Grandpa Schreiber:

My mother was a wonderful example of someone who picks herself up by the bootstraps and continues to face a difficult life. She raised myself and my two sisters largely as a single mother. During my years growing up in Brooklyn, she always made sure that we were aware of the importance of family and although she made a minimal living as a sales clerk in a bakery, my mom always made sure that there was food on the table and love in the house. She had a difficult life since her husband William, my father, was in and out of the house for the greater part of the time when my two sisters were growing up. She developed colon cancer when she was 52 years old and lived only a short time afterwards; approximately 5 months. She always stressed the value of education and instilled upon all of her children the need to excel. She got to see her first grandchild, my daughter Susan and my wife was pregnant with my second child, Marion, Geena’s mom, whose name is an honor to her memory.
